Polyvinylchloride (PVC) : Strong Solvating
Plasticizers
Strong solvating plasticizers:
Strong solvating plasticizers are usually used when a low temperature PVC
gelation is required. Complete or partial replacement of general purpose
plasticizers by a highly solvating plasticizer usually improve the stain
resistance, thus, they are widely used in flooring applications.
Some examples of the strong solvating Phthalates and Benzoates are listed
below.
Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP): Highly volatile.
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP): Highly volatile.
Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP): Less volatile, however, poor heat & light
stability is a drawback.
Dipropylene Glycol Dibenzoate (DPGDB): Similar solvating strength to BBP,
and less volatile.
